Workers' Compensation
Mississippi has a no-fault workers’ compensation system. If you are injured at work and the injury is caused by you, a co-worker, a supervisor, a customer or anyone else, you are protected under Mississippi’s workers’ compensation laws. Because an insurance company is involved, valid claims are often denied.
When you are injured at work and your employer has more than four employees, the law re- quires that your employer carry workers’ compensation insurance to pay 100% of your medical bills related to your injuries and to compensate you while you are unable to work. While you are unable to work, you are entitled to receive two-thirds of your pre-injury income, up to a certain amount. An injured worker is also entitled to be paid for the expenses incurred from driving to and from doctor, pharmacy and physical therapy visits. Although there are a few exceptions, most injuries on the job fall under Mississippi’s workers’ compensation laws. Injuries on the job can get expensive quickly if the insurance company is not properly paying the claim. If you are not receiving your workers’ compensation benefits, an experienced workers’ compensation at- torney may be needed to ensure that you are treated fairly.
